Camille's Best of 2011 - Part 1 : Favorite Albums

I know I am WILDLY late on this one, but hey I've been busy.

2011 was a crazy busy year so I think I had a hard time keeping up with music, so the brevity of my list doesn't mean that last year was a sub-par for me musically, just that it took a lot for a track or an album to bubble up for me. Here is what made the cut.

Favorite Albums

1) SARS - Perspektiva
Serbian band that makes gorgeous, thoughtful music that is a far cry from a lot of the uninspired dance music and hits of the 90s that clog up the radio in Balkans....and they keep giving it away for free!



2) Little Dragon - Ritual Union
What can I say? The kids got back on form and did it better than they ever have before. So many jams on this album.


3) Drive soundtrack
Hot movie but it wouldn't have been have as good without this gorgeous soundtrack


4) Toro y Moi - Underneath the Pine
Every other shop I walked into seemed to be bumping this album but it always sounded fresh.


Most Disappointing Album of the Year
Joker - Tron



Ahhhhh man, we waited SO long and had such HIGH hopes!I guess you musta just cracked under the pressure. That said, I do love this Goldie remix...then again, Goldie can almost do no wrong in my mind.

Machinedrum New Beats Teaser 2012

Machinedrum, whose Room(s) LP was amongst my favorite albums of 2011, ain't letting up anytime soon. The other day he dropped this tasty teaser of about 20 new tracks in an 11 minute mini mix, and my oh my is it a treat. Some real big tunes in here!

Wow, where did this come from? D'angelo cover of Soundgarden's epic "Black Hole Sun". Word is that this is an old demo from some years back, still very welcomed.

Kendrick Lamar " Buried Alive"

Drake's new album has just dropped and the hi light for me was seeing that my fav emcee of the moment got a nice feature on that thang. Kendrick's " Buried Alive" ends "Marvin's Room" and doesn't disappoint. His words carry great weight in this verse.
