Guru

It wouldnt be right for us to not acknowledge the passing of the one and only GURU of Gang Starr. His monotone voice, flow and knowledge conveyed through his lyrics were the soundtrack to many days of our lives and will continue to be so.

I vividly remember the first time I heard Gang Starr back in the early 90s from the 'Hard to Earn" album. So in this time of celebrating the man's legacy and work, I will leave you with one of my favorite joints from that very Gang Starr album that opened my ears to Mr. Gifted Universal Rhymes Unlimited.

Steve Reid...Thanks for everything

Legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid recently passed leaving another void in the world of free jazz. Having played with everyone from the likes of James Brown, Fela Kuti, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, classics such as Martha &the Vandellas "Dancing in the Streets", and most recently alongside electronic producer Kieren Hebden aka Four tet, Steve has definitely gotten around and made his rhythmic mark in many circles and styles of music.

here is a classic jam from his very great 1976 album Nova...

and as a bonus an interview .

the rhythm shall continue albeit with your very distinct influence and groove

E-40 x Bjork...!!!!

Damn this is so ill...makes me proud to be from the Bay. On some post hyphy just raw blapperness.

From the E-4o (Fonzarelli) aka 40 Water new album and featuring Laroo, The DBz, Droop-E, and B-Slim. Featuring samples from Bjork's acapella album Medulla, prodcued by E-40's son Droop- E. Off of the new double album from E-40.

(via the Fader)

Chorus reminds me of some "me and you we can make some cash, robbing ole folks and making the dash"

and conceptually somewhat very loosely of :
"And she said... It'll be good if you stayed with me tonight so I granted her wish"

oh and she cleared the sample too!
