OKSG sent me this SUPER BASSY dubstep track the other day and told me not to mess around with playing it quietly. So I waited til everyone was out and then BUMPED IT full blast. The ideal situation to listen to this, in my opinion, would be to get into a drop-top with a good sound system and hydraulics, pop this track in said sound system, and roll through the streets of Brooklyn or LA. It is FIYAH that belongs in such an environment. Barring that, bump it in your crib, but I am not responsible for any lawsuits that might occur as a result of you rattling the walls of your apartment building and causing the place to crumble.
True story.

Build An Ark
I got hip to Build An Ark, via Gilles Peterson, and their album Dawn has been getting a lot of heavy play around these parts. It is very 70s conscious Afro-Latin jazz stylely.
Check out the title track below, and get with this album.

Head Shoulders Knees and Toes
Just laid my ears on K.I.G's Head Shoulders Knees and Toes (& the subsequent Wale version - DOWNLOAD THIS), and thought I better share. I knew this song as the popular (and oft-covered) Ghanaian call and response song Che Che Kule, and I am glad to see that it is back and still making the crowds move in this new UK grimey- dancehally-afro-housey current club hit.
And as a bonus, here are some Ghanaian school children doing their version. :)

D'Angelo album watch
So a bit of news is leaking about the forthcoming D'Angelo album. According to Billboard , D' will be collabo-ing with Cee-Lo, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, and Roy Hargrove- There are also rumours of some Mark Ronson and Prince support on there.
In addition, D' is planning to do some touring this summer through Europe and the States. I hope he can still bring the ole magic...

John Forte - FREE!
(Via Fader blog) Not sure how El Busho was convinced to release this brotha just as he walked out the doors of the White House, but it has happened and John is looking better than ever and FOCUSED.
Read about his first day out of prison on The Daily Beast blog.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
So I purposely refrained from posting this year. I've spent the first few weeks quietly waiting for something to sneak up and knock my socks off and it has arrived. Animal Collective's album Merriweather Post Pavilion is the one to beat this year, my friends.
Here is them performing one of my fave songs from the album:
I am embarrassed to say I have never listened to a single Animal Collective album before now, and I have no excuse for why that is. But after having my mind blown by this album, I will definitely be rolling through the back catalogue. OKSG, where should I start?
