Admittedly, its a bit difficult to get excited about new hip hop in 2009. The genre which I once was so impassioned about (and still am to a certain degree) has suffered immeasurably in the last decade (decade and a half?)for various reasons. Still despite all of this and the tempting assertion that 'hip hop is dead,' I still do get excited when I hear a great verse over a hot beat, delivered oh so well, as only a handful of rappers, I feel can still pull off today. But lets face it, hip hop isn't dead. While the proclaimation that it is, was an interesting, perhaps necessary and thought provoking marketing strategy, it can't die. It simply can't. Why you may ask? As long as a new hip hop song is still maintaining those aforementioned and rather simple characteristics that make a hip hop song good, as well as staying creative by experimenting with and trying new things, it remains alive- not necessarily in the best shape overall, but alive nonetheless.

Douster "Triassic" Video
Triassic from natilu on Vimeo.
This is the teaser video for Douster's new album out today on the homeboys ZZK Records. Im really loving this video, I think it was executed sublimely with the track a great offering from the Frenchman who puts forth his mix of funky, tropical, and fidget house into a delicious mixture. I believe the video was done by his wife Natilu.

A-Trak + Armand Van Helden = Duck Sauce
I am loving these two videos for the new Duck Sauce (collabo between A-Trak and AVH) track "Anyway". The second half of 2009 has been a little slow on the jams, but this tasty track definitely gets the seal of approval as a 2009 classic!

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy
Y'all know me. I am sucker for super slick stylized ish, and so I could not resist the charms of La Roux's "I'm Not Your Toy" video. However, the music itself did leave bit to be desired. I figured a little remixing would probably make it work for me, so I proceeded to seek them out.
The dubsteppy Nero remix below does not disappoint.

Sadly, Im going to miss their live show (check US dates here) once again as I will be out of town, yargggghh.

Joker's jamming my year
source
This track has been burning up my life since I first heard it on Joker's Sonar mix, and I
looked all over the nets for "fiiiiiiinalllleeeeee the weight is off my shoulders" to no avail. Finally, our trusty Fader crew has revealed the track to be the Joker remix of Simian Mobile Disco's new track "Cruel Intentions" featuring the fantabulous Beth Ditto (of The Gossip).
Here's the real track for download via FADER - Simian Mobile Disco - "Cruel Intentions" - feat Beth Ditto (Joker remix).
Here's the bootleg on Youtube
Download it, play it LOUD, enjoy the jamtasticness.

Black Milk "Losing Out" in Paris
Black Milk, putting on a good show here to an appreciative euro crowd in Paris. Nice rework of "losing out"- the drum reworking care of Daru, is reminiscent of the Roots "You Got Me" ending.

Escort - All Through The Night (with Muppets!)
Feeeelin this cute little video of the Rapture remix of All Through The Night by Brooklyn funk band Escort, featuring some of the grooviest bits that the Muppet Show had to offer. Does kids TV work it like this anymore? I sincerely doubt it.
